Abstract

An 18-month-old southern hairy-nosed wombat (Lasiorhinus latifrons) was presented with progressive alopecia. Histopathological investigation revealed atrophic hair follicles in telogen. Thyroid hormone levels were decreased compared to age-matched controls. Treatment with thyroxine improved the haircoat. This case highlights the consideration of congenital endocrinopathies as a cause of noninflammatory alopecia in young wombats.
