Plain-English summary

A dog was diagnosed with mycotic pneumonia, which is a lung infection caused by a fungus. After 120 days of treatment with a medication called ketoconazole, the dog made a full recovery. The vet found that checking the dog's antibody levels against the fungus helped track the dog's progress, as the dog showed improvement even before the antibody levels decreased significantly.

Abstract

A bronchopneumonic process diagnosed as mycotic in origin is described. The dog fully recovered after 120 days of treatment with ketoconazole. Determination of the serological level of anti‐IgG againstAspergilluswas very useful in the follow‐up, because the clinical improvement of the animal was evident long before the antibody level dropped significantly.
