Plain-English summary
A young dog was found to have a problem with its knee that looked like a serious joint issue on X-rays. During surgery, the vet discovered that the issue was actually caused by an abnormality in the cranial cruciate ligament, which is important for knee stability. After four years, follow-up X-rays showed no signs of the original problem, indicating that the dog was doing well.

Abstract
An aberrant cranial cruciate ligament mimicked an osteochondral lesion of the lateral femoral condyle in a young dog. This rare condition was diagnosed at surgery. At a four‐year follow‐up, no radiographic evidence of the apparent osteochondral defect was seen.
