Plain-English summary
This study discusses a case of a horse that developed a serious condition called acute myonecrosis, which is a severe muscle infection caused by a type of bacteria known as Clostridium novyi type A. The researchers focused on the horse's clinical signs, which are the symptoms that show something is wrong, as well as the tests done to identify the bacteria and understand the disease better. This case is significant because it is the first time such an infection has been reported in horses. The findings highlight the importance of proper diagnosis through both laboratory tests and clinical observation.
Abstract
The objective of this study was to describe the first report involving a case of equine acute myonecrosis caused by C. novyi type A with an emphasis on clinical signs, the pathological and bacteriological analysis, and molecular identification of the microorganisms as the key of the definitive diagnosis.
