Abstract
This article presents a rare case of unilateral hydronephrosis and hydroureter in a female ferret caused by urinary lithiasis, leading to spontaneous rupture of the ureter. The animal, a one-year-old non-castrated female ferret, was presented with anorexia, abdominal distention, and depression, showing signs of dehydration and mild cranial abdominal pain. The post-mortem examination revealed pale mucous membranes, abdominal distention, alopecia, and uroperitoneum, with a rupture of the right ureter and hydronephrosis. To our knowledge, ureteral rupture caused by calculi has not been previously described in ferrets. This case highlights the importance of considering ureteral obstruction and rupture in ferrets presenting with abdominal pain. This case contributes to veterinary knowledge, emphasising the need for advanced diagnostics in similar cases in the future.
