Aural Squamous Cell Carcinoma in the Horse: A Case Report

Abstract

SUMMARY Persistent head shaking in an eight year old Thoroughbred mare was associated with a squamous cell carcinoma within the left aural canal. The diagnosis was confirmed following surgical excision of the tumour and the clinical signs of head shaking completely resolved. RÉSUMÉ Une jument de Pur Sang secouait la tête sans arrêt: on constata la présence d'un carcinome à cellules squameuses dans le canal auriculaire gauche. L'ablation chirurgicale de la tumeur fit disparaitre le comportement clinique et le diagnostic fut confirmé par l'histologie. ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Ein dauerndes Kopfschütteln bei einer achtjährigen Vollblutstute wurde einem Sichelzell‐Ca im linken Gehörgang zugeschrieben. Die Diagnose wurde nach der chirurgischen Entfernung des Tumors bestätigt und das Kopfschütteln trat nicht wieder auf.
