Plain-English summary

A 5-year-old domestic shorthair cat was diagnosed with pemphigus foliaceus, a serious skin condition that causes painful blisters and sores. The cat was treated with oral oclacitinib, a medication that helps reduce inflammation and immune response. This treatment successfully controlled the cat's symptoms, providing a promising alternative to traditional high-dose steroids. The cat's skin condition improved significantly, leading to a better quality of life.

Abstract

Pemphigus foliaceous (PF) is a pustular, immune-mediated skin disease characterised by acantholytic cells and commonly treated with high doses of glucocorticoids. This report describes one case of feline PF successfully controlled using oral oclacitinib, suggesting a possible therapeutic alternative to glucocorticoids in some cases.
