Abstract
Collins et al. (2025) present important evidence of emerging fenbendazole (FBZ) resistance in Ascaridia galli and widespread resistance in Heterakis gallinarum. While the survey highlights an urgent production challenge, broader scientific and translational perspectives are needed. We emphasize three key areas: (i) genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying benzimidazole resistance in ascarids, which remain poorly defined compared to Haemonchus contortus and equine Parascaris; (ii) the One Health and regulatory implications of continued FBZ dependence in poultry production; and (iii) integrated parasite management strategies combining diagnostics, alternative compounds, and husbandry interventions. Focusing on these directions will allow future studies to move beyond descriptive surveys toward sustainable, evidence-based control strategies.
