Bioinspired slippery dressing with minimal adhesion and moisturizing for burn wound healing.

Abstract

Burn wound healing, which is accompanied by excessive seepage, seriously delays patients' quality of life. However, most reported dressings focus on the management of effusion, often ignoring problems such as secondary injury and scars after healing. Herein, we reported a bio-inspired lubricating dressing with silicone oil stored in a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) network. The secreted oil forms a barrier layer that not only reduces the adhesion force on rat wounds sixfold compared to blank gauze, but also provides moisturizing effects to prevent scar formation. In addition, it also can remove excessive exudate and reduce tissue injury in the presence of negative pressure. To prove the concept, we applied it to a rat burn model. The results indicate that the lubricating dressing could accelerate wound healing by promoting the growth of granulation tissue and collagen deposition. This unique lubricating dressing exhibits clinical significance for the design and fabrication of a next-generation multifunctional dressing.
