Original publication title: Case study: Treating infraspinatus and supraspinatus trigger points and supraspinatus tendinopathy utilizing piezoelectric shockwave.

Species:
dog

Plain-English summary

A dog with shoulder pain due to a condition called supraspinatus tendinopathy and muscle trigger points was treated with piezoelectric shockwave therapy. This innovative treatment helped improve the dog's shoulder function and reduced pain by targeting both the tendon and the surrounding muscle areas. The results showed that piezoelectric shockwave therapy can be effective for common shoulder injuries in dogs, leading to better movement and comfort.

Abstract

Two individual case studies demonstrate piezoelectric shockwave treatment for the resolution of a supraspinatus tendinopathy and supraspinatus and infraspinatus myofascial trigger points (MTPs)musculoskeletal ultrasound. This is the first documentation of improvement of both tendon and muscle fiber patterns in canine patients treated with piezoelectric shockwave. These cases validate the use of piezoelectric shockwave during the rehabilitation of common canine shoulder injuries.
