Original publication title: Computed tomography for the diagnosis of a lumbosacral nerve sheath tumour and management by hemipelvectomy.
- Species:
- dog
Plain-English summary
A 10-year-old crossbred dog was diagnosed with a nerve sheath tumor in the lower back area using advanced imaging techniques like computed tomography and ultrasound. The vet was able to take a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. To treat the tumor effectively, the dog underwent a surgical procedure called hemipelvectomy, which involved removing part of the pelvis to ensure all of the tumor was excised. This approach aimed to provide the best chance for recovery.

Abstract
Computed tomography was used to define the gross extent of a lumbosacral plexus nerve sheath tumour in a 10-year-old crossbred dog. The tumour was also visualised ultrasonographically, which enabled a percutaneous biopsy to be taken. Hemipelvectomy was performed to achieve a clean margin of surgical excision.
