Abstract

The recent study by Mustafa and Alsayeqh (2025) on plant-based acaricides targeting Dermanyssus gallinae lays important groundwork for developing alternative methods to control this persistent poultry pest. To further enhance the practical application and impact of such botanical solutions, we highlight six key areas for future research. These include exploring synergistic effects among plant extracts, confirming their effectiveness under real farming conditions, evaluating their influence on poultry health and production, ensuring residues are safe for consumers, assessing potential environmental consequences, and investigating local traditional plants for new candidates. Focusing on these priorities will help drive the creation of effective, safe, and regionally relevant acaricidal options.
