Abstract
SUMMARY Two experiments were conducted to determine whether ethoxyquin (6-ethoxy-l,2-dihydro-2,2,4-trimethylquinoline) was related to abortion or to early death in newborn rabbits. In each of 2 experiments using 95 female rabbits, the rabbits were allotted to 3 groups. Rabbits (dams) in the 1st experiment were fed rations without added ethoxyquin and with 0.0025 and 0.0050% ethoxyquin. In the 2nd experiment, the 3 groups of rabbits (dams) were given feed without added ethoxyquin and with 0.0025 and 0.0100% ethoxyquin. The rabbits were fed these rations from at least 10 days before breeding to 2 weeks after parturition. Abortions were not observed, and statistical analysis of the data did not reveal that ethoxyquin was related to increased mortality in the newborn rabbits.
