Plain-English summary
In a study of polo and racing horses in the Philippines, researchers looked into a condition called exercise-induced pulmonary hemorrhage, which is bleeding in the lungs that can happen during intense exercise. They found that 11.1% of the polo horses and a much higher 64% of the racing horses experienced this issue after competing. Interestingly, none of the horses showed any signs of bleeding from their nostrils. The findings suggest that while this condition is more common in racing horses, it can also affect polo horses, even if they don't show obvious symptoms.
