Original publication title: First isolation of Campylobacter jejuni from the vaginal discharge of three bitches after abortion in South Africa.

Species:
dog

Plain-English summary

Three German Shepherd bitches experienced late-pregnancy abortions and were found to have a profuse, odorless, bloody vaginal discharge. Tests revealed that the cause was an infection with Campylobacter jejuni, a type of bacteria. This finding highlights the importance of monitoring for unusual discharge in pregnant dogs, as it can indicate underlying health issues. Treatment options would typically involve antibiotics to address the infection, and it's crucial for pet owners to consult their veterinarian if they notice similar symptoms.
