Plain-English summary
A miniature horse from an Ontario farm was found to be very thin and had lost a lot of fat before it was humanely euthanized. An examination after death showed that the horse's liver was smaller than normal and had some scarring around the blood vessels. The liver also contained eggs and flatworms, which are signs of an infection. This case seems to be the first time such an infection has been reported in horses in North America. Unfortunately, the horse did not survive.
