Plain-English summary
A dog from a rural area was brought in with a swollen left testicle and a smaller right testicle. Tests showed that while some standard tests for Brucella (a type of bacteria) were negative, others confirmed the presence of Brucella abortus in the dog's system. Despite not finding the bacteria in blood, semen, or urine samples, DNA from the bacteria was detected in both urine and blood. This case highlights the importance of specific testing for Brucella infections in dogs, especially when symptoms like testicular swelling are present.
