Plain-English summary
A dog with atopic dermatitis (allergic skin condition) may develop intertrigo, which is skin fold dermatitis that can cause itching, odor, and pain in the affected areas. Simply treating the allergies might not be enough to clear up the skin issues. It's important for pet owners to recognize these symptoms and discuss them with their veterinarian, as additional treatments may be necessary to manage both the allergies and the skin folds effectively.

Abstract
Canine atopic dermatitis is frequently accompanied by intertrigo (skin fold dermatitis). This can cause significant clinical signs including pruritus, odour and pain in affected skin folds. Control of the underlying atopic dermatitis alone may not be enough to resolve these signs. This paper discusses the presentation, diagnosis and management of this common problem.
