Abstract
SUMMARY The enzymatic sites of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) activities were histochemically visualized in ovaries of 15 guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus). Variations of sites of AChE and BuChE throughout the estrous cycle and 1 term of pregnancy were identified and compared, and the guinea pig was evaluated as a model for physiologic studies of ovarian cholinesterases (ChE). Speculation about the physiologic function of ovarian ChE was made.
