Plain-English summary
Five young German Short-haired Pointers were diagnosed with lupoid dermatosis, a skin condition that can cause hair loss and skin lesions. This disease has only been observed in this breed so far, and it doesn't seem to affect male or female dogs differently. Diagnosis was made through a physical exam and skin biopsies. While the outlook for recovery is generally not great, treatments including fatty acids and other symptomatic care were recommended to help manage the symptoms.

Abstract
[Vroom, M.W., Theaker, M.J., Rest, J.R., White, S.D. Lupoid dermatosis in five German short-haired pointers (Dermatosis lupoide en cinco perros Pointer alemán de pelo corto). Abstract- Lupoid dermatosis of the German short-haired pointer may be a genodermatosis, although the number of cases reported is low. The disease occurs in young dogs. There is no sex predisposition. Until now the disease has only been consistently described in the German short-haired pointer. Diagnosis can be made by clinical examination together with histopathological examination of skin biopsies. The prognosis is usually poor, but fatty acid and symptomatic treatment should be attempted.
