Abstract

Summary:This is a report of 20 years use of force feeding of the canine with medical or surgical nutritional deficits. Usually it has been the hourly administration (1) (2) of table sugar, dry non‐fat milk, raw egg yolk, a vitamin‐mineral mixture, and often an oral electrolyte. (LYTREN)* Diarrhea has not been a problem. The routine enhances early recovery and chances for survival. Importantly, when this hourly force feeding routine is followed, the dog usually drinks the water it requires.
