Plain-English summary
A one-year-old female Foreign White cat was not doing well for six days, showing signs of not eating (anorexia), being very tired (lethargy), and having low red blood cell counts (anemia). After she passed away, a thorough examination revealed multiple growths called polyps in her small intestine. These polyps were linked to changes in the tissue, including inflammation. The study also compared this condition in cats with similar cases in humans and dogs. Unfortunately, the outcome for this cat was not positive.
Abstract
A one year old female Foreign White cat is described with a history of six days of unthriftiness, anorexia, anaemia and depressed temperature. The necropsy revealed multiple sessile polyps in the jejunum. Histologically a hyperplasia of the crypt epithelium with an inflammation of the mucosa and submucosa was found. A comparison of polyposis in man, dogs and cats is made.
