Protocol for remapping of place cells in disease mouse models.

Abstract

Hippocampal place cells and entorhinal grid cells exhibit distinct spike patterns in different environments called "remapping," and we have recently shown that remapping of place cells becomes disrupted in a mouse model of Alzheimer's disease. Here, we describe our protocol for investigating remapping of place cells and grid cells using a custom-made electrophysiology device, with detailed descriptions and problem-solving tips for the construction and implantation of the recording device.
