Abstract
Path integration (PI) is a component of navigation whereby an organism uses self-motion cues to estimate position and move toward a goal, without relying on external landmarks. PI deficits can predict cognitive decline and Alzheimer's disease in humans. Here, we present a protocol to test PI in mice using a dry-land L-maze behavioral assay with three phases: habituation, training, and testing. This protocol may allow researchers to test for early disease in mouse models of neurodegeneration. For complete details on the use and execution of this protocol, please refer to Graves et al..
