Abstract

Haemocomponents are used in the field of regenerative medicine – using the body's own self-healing tools to repair damage – and have long been used in veterinary ophthalmology. Platelet-rich plasma is becoming more frequently used to treat ocular surface diseases such as corneal ulcers and keratoconjunctivitis sicca. However, the existing evidence base for the use of this treatment with regards to safety and efficacy is weak.
