Original publication title: Staphyloma in a cat

Species:
cat

Plain-English summary

An 18-month-old female Domestic Short-haired cat was brought in with a bulging eye condition called staphyloma, which is a type of abnormality in the eye's outer layer. During the examination, the vet also found other eye issues, including a cataract and problems with the retina. The treatment involved surgically removing the staphyloma and repairing the eye with a graft. After the surgery, the cat's eye was closed up properly, and the procedure aimed to improve her overall eye health.

Abstract

AbstractA unilateral scleral staphyloma in an 18‐month‐old, female spayed Domestic Short‐haired cat was treated with excision, primary closure and fascial graft. Other ocular abnormalities noted on examination included iris coloboma, anterior cortical cataract, focal lens equator flattening and retinal dysplasia. The staphyloma was presumed to be congenital in origin.
