Plain-English summary
A 1-year-old female Chihuahua was brought to the vet after suffering a traumatic skull injury. Imaging tests showed that her brain was pushing through a soft spot in her skull, known as the bregmatic fontanelle. The veterinarian was able to manually reposition the brain and then repaired the opening with a special mesh. This case is unique as it's the first time this type of brain herniation has been reported in a dog.
