Plain-English summary
A 13-month-old German shepherd was brought to the vet because he suddenly stopped eating, had a fever, swollen lymph nodes, and inflamed tonsils. The vet diagnosed him with tularemia, an infection caused by the bacteria Francisella tularensis, after seeing a significant increase in specific antibodies over three weeks. Fortunately, the dog recovered on his own, and his symptoms improved within five days with just supportive care.

Abstract
A 13-month-old German shepherd dog was presented with acute onset of anorexia, pyrexia, lymphadenopathy, and tonsillitis. Tularemia was diagnosed based on a greater-than-fourfold increase in antiFrancisella tularensis antibody titers over a three-week period. The disease was self-limiting, and clinical signs resolved within five days with only supportive therapy.
