Species:
dog

Plain-English summary

A 3.75-year-old spayed female Shetland sheepdog was brought to the vet because she was bleeding excessively from her gums. Her condition worsened quickly, and she needed a blood transfusion to stabilize her. After diagnosing her with Type 3 von Willebrand's disease, a bleeding disorder, the vet was able to manage her bleeding. She was sent home with advice to keep her activity low and to monitor her closely for any further issues.
