Abstract

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a growing global health threat impacting both human and veterinary healthcare. In veterinary medicine, particularly in small animal practice, multidrug-resistant bacteria mirror trends seen in humans, with the World Health Organization priority pathogens detected in both sectors. Although the One Health approach emphasizes collaboration across sectors, integrating it into routine clinical practice remains difficult. Accordingly, this article examines the barriers to applying One Health approaches in clinical settings and highlights the need for strong interprofessional collaboration between physicians and small animal clinicians to tackle the global AMR crisis.
