Original publication title: Vulvar oedema secondary to exogenous oestrogen exposure in a paediatric canine patient
- Species:

Plain-English summary
A 12-week-old female miniature dachshund was brought in because her vulva was swelling and she had a clear discharge for the past three weeks. The vet found that the swelling was due to exposure to outside sources of estrogen, which can cause such symptoms. After running some tests, including blood work and imaging, they confirmed the diagnosis. The dog will need to be kept away from any estrogen sources to prevent further issues.

Abstract
Abstract A 12‐week‐old, female, entire miniature dachshund presented with a 3‐week history of progressive vulval enlargement with an associated clear serous sanguinolent discharge. Vulval oedema was noted on clinical exam. Further investigations included a complete cell count, computer tomography and a guarded vaginal swab, which revealed vaginal epithelial cell keratinisation. After thorough anamnesis, the clinical signs were concluded to be a result of exogenous oestrogen exposure.
