Abstract

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus emerged in US herds in 1987. Since that time, producers and veterinarians have battled both the disease and each other, trying to manage the situation, with little to no success. This Viewpoint provides an opinion regarding the future of the disease, identifies 6 "nonnegotiable" practices as part of a national plan, and casts a new vision: "A World Without PRRS."
