Original publication title: Ameloblastic ondontoma in a foal.

Species:
horse

Plain-English summary

A 4-month-old foal was brought in with swelling on the right side of its face and significant breathing problems due to an abnormal growth in its right maxillary sinus. This growth, called an ameloblastic odontoma, is a type of tumor that likely developed before birth and had caused serious changes to the sinus structure. The foal's condition required veterinary intervention to address the obstruction and manage the tumor.

Abstract

A 4 month old foal with right sided maxillary enlargement and considerable upper airway obstruction had an ameloblastic odontoma in the right maxillary sinus. This odontogenic tumour, probably congenital in nature, had extensively distorted the structure and contours of the sinus, and displaced the adjacent turbinates and nasal septum.
