Abstract
Splenectomy is a commonly performed procedure in general practice. The aim of this article is to review the normal anatomy and physiology of the spleen, to review the most commonly seen splenic disorders and to describe different ways to safely perform splenectomy so that clinicians can choose the best approach and procedure for each case that they see.
