Plain-English summary
An 8-year-old male domestic shorthaired cat was brought in because of a mass near his rear end. After surgery to remove the mass, tests showed it was a type of cancer called anal sac adenocarcinoma. The cat received chemotherapy with a drug called carboplatin, which helped a little but didn't work for long. Sadly, further examination after he passed away revealed that the cancer had spread to nearby lymph nodes and his lungs.

Abstract
An 8-year-old, castrated male, domestic shorthaired cat was presented for evaluation of a perianal mass. The mass was incompletely excised, and histological assessment resulted in a diagnosis of anal sac adenocarcinoma. The cat had a partial response to carboplatin therapy but a short overall duration of response. Necropsy confirmed the original diagnosis as well as metastasis to the regional lymph nodes and lungs.
