Plain-English summary

A dog diagnosed with large cell lymphoma was treated with two different chemotherapy protocols: Low-dose COP and High-dose COP. While both treatments used similar drugs, the High-dose COP protocol was found to be more effective, leading to longer remission periods and less chance of cancer spreading. The Low-dose COP protocol caused more issues, including frequent vet visits and potential side effects like hemorrhagic cystitis (bladder inflammation). Ultimately, the High-dose COP treatment provided better results without significant side effects, helping the dog feel better for a longer time.

Abstract

The article presents data from a comparative analysis of the effectiveness of chemotherapy using Low-dose COP and High-dose COP protocols for large cell lymphoma in dogs. Both treatment regimens include the use of the drugs vincristine, cyclophosphamide and prednisolone, but differ in the frequency and dosage of the drugs. The use of chemotherapy according to the Low-dose COP protocol causes more inconveniences and difficulties, including frequent visits by the owners of the veterinary clinic, as well as the likelihood of hemorrhagic cystitis. Chemotherapy according to the High-dose COP protocol showed the best effectiveness in large-cell lymphoma in dogs, since we noted a long period of remission and relief of metastasis formation processes. In addition, when using this chemotherapy tactic, the appearance of side symptoms was not noted.
