Plain-English summary
A German shepherd dog was brought in with symptoms of excessive thirst and urination, along with signs of dwarfism and changes in its coat. After tests, the vet diagnosed the dog with central diabetes insipidus (a condition that causes extreme thirst and frequent urination) and hypopituitarism (a hormone deficiency). The dog was treated with desmopressin, which effectively managed its thirst and urination issues.

Abstract
This report describes a German shepherd dog that was presented with proportionate dwarfism and coat changes typical of hypopituitarism but that was also profoundly polydipsic and polyuric. Investigations established a diagnosis of concurrent central diabetes insipidus. Treatment with desmopressin was successful in managing the polyuria and polydipsia.
