Plain-English summary
Veterinarians have developed a two-step method to repair large defects in the upper eyelid of pets, which is based on a technique used in humans. This method involves taking a flap of skin from the lower eyelid to help fix the problem. It has been successfully used in a dog with a type of skin cancer called melanoma and in two cats with a condition known as coloboma, where part of the eyelid is missing. Overall, the treatment worked well for these animals.
