Plain-English summary

A 5-year-old domestic shorthair cat was brought to the vet with fluid buildup in the chest and no visible lumps. After examining the fluid, the vet diagnosed the cat with a rare type of cancer called hemophagocytic histiocytic sarcoma. This case highlights how important it is for vets to analyze fluid samples when there are no obvious signs of tumors. The cat received treatment based on the diagnosis, but the outcome details were not specified.
