Abstract
SUMMARY A heat-labile factor which inhibited the growth of Mycoplasma meleagridis in broth and on agar was detected in freshly obtained serums from noninfected turkeys, swine, and guinea pigs. The growth-inhibiting activity was lost if the serum was heated (30 minutes at 56 C.) or if it was stored. Titers of the growth-inhibiting activity varied with different test methods, and negative results were observed with some methods. The heat-labile factor had a potentiating effect on the immune growth inhibition in agar.
