Abstract
SUMMARY A rabbit fibroma virus was isolated from a tumor of a wild cottontail rabbit. After 3 or more passages, the virus produced marked cytopathic effect (cpe) in rabbit kidney cell culture. Intracytoplasmic inclusions were seen which stained green with acridine orange stain and red with Feulgen reaction, indicating accumulation of deoxyribonucleic acid (dna). The isolate was neutralized with homologous antiserum. In cell culture preparation, the viral particles measured 220 to 240 nm. by 250 to 270 nm. in diameter. When cell culture virus was inoculated in young, white, domesticated rabbits, localized tumor formation was induced which regressed after 7 days.
