Plain-English summary

A 14-year-old male neutered mixed breed dog, part white shepherd and part Labrador, was brought in because he was drinking a lot and urinating frequently. During the exam, the vet found a mass near his anus. A fine needle aspiration showed that the mass was an anal gland adenocarcinoma (a type of cancer). The dog's high calcium levels, which contributed to his increased thirst and urination, were linked to the cancer. Treatment options would depend on the stage of the cancer and the dog's overall health.
