Plain-English summary

A 6-year-old female horse was brought in because she was having trouble urinating and was going to the bathroom more often than usual. The veterinarians found a mass in her pelvis that was blocking her urinary flow, and she also showed signs of kidney failure. Unfortunately, because her condition was very serious and not likely to improve, she was put to sleep. A thorough examination after her passing showed that the mass was caused by pelvic lymphoma, a type of cancer that was pressing on her urethra.

Abstract

A 6-year-old mare was presented for evaluation of dysuria and pollakiuria. A pelvic mass, which caused obstruction of urinary outflow, was identified. Evidence of renal failure was also present. Due to poor prognosis the mare was euthanized. A postmortem examination revealed a pelvic lymphoma that surrounded and compressed the urethra.
