Original publication title: Polymyositis as an unexpected presentation of canine leishmaniasis
- Species:
- dog
Plain-English summary
A 5-year-old mixed-breed dog was diagnosed with polymyositis, which caused muscle weakness and pain, as a surprising result of visceral leishmaniasis, a disease caused by parasites. Despite not finding any parasites in the muscle biopsy, the dog's symptoms were linked to the leishmaniasis infection. Treatment focused on managing the leishmaniasis and addressing the muscle inflammation. With appropriate care, the dog showed improvement in strength and mobility over time.
