Plain-English summary

A 4-year-old grey mare was brought in with a chronic wound on her buttock that had developed excessive granulation tissue, known as proud flesh. Initial treatments weren't effective, so the vet surgically trimmed the proud flesh and applied special solutions to help with healing. After surgery, the horse received antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications, along with a specific enzyme to aid recovery. The wound was dressed regularly with saline and other solutions, and by the 42nd day, the wound had healed completely.
