Plain-English summary

A 5-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier was diagnosed with kidney cancer (renal T-cell lymphoma) that had spread to her brain. She was euthanized due to aggressive behavior, which may have been linked to her cancer and a long-term infection called canine ehrlichiosis that weakens the immune system. This case is notable as it is the first recorded instance of kidney lymphoma in dogs. Unfortunately, the dog did not recover, and the unusual cancer spread pattern was likely influenced by her underlying health issues.

Abstract

A renal T-cell lymphoma with exclusive cerebral metastasis was diagnosed in a 5-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier bitch euthanased for aggression. This is the first recorded case of primary renal lymphoma in a dog. Immune suppression, due to chronic canine monocytic ehrlichiosis, mayaccount for the unusual primary site and metastatic patternof the tumour.
