Plain-English summary

Two dogs in Brazil were diagnosed with Rocky Mountain spotted fever, a serious illness caused by a bacteria called Rickettsia rickettsii. Both dogs showed symptoms of the disease, which were confirmed through blood tests. They were treated with doxycycline, an antibiotic, and both dogs recovered well after the treatment. This case highlights that Rocky Mountain spotted fever can occur outside the United States.
