Abstract
Zoonotic parasites are organisms that can be transmitted from wild and/or domesticated animals to humans. Companion animals can carry a wide range of endoparasites with zoonotic potential. While considerable emphasis is placed on protecting pet owners and the public from zoonotic infections, veterinary staff in clinical practice are also at risk of exposure and awareness of zoonotic parasites and their routes of transmission is essential. This article reviews the different zoonotic endoparasites of companion animals encountered in the UK and will explore the control measures required to protect both animal and human health.
