Plain-English summary
A 13-year-old female Chihuahua was found to have a tumor on her third eyelid gland, which is located in the corner of the eye. After the tumor was surgically removed, tests showed it was an apocrine adnexoma, a type of growth that can occur in glandular tissue. This type of tumor is quite rare, and there haven't been any similar cases reported before. The dog underwent surgery, and while the outcome isn't specified, the removal of the tumor is a common treatment for such growths.

Abstract
A tumor of the third eyelid gland was diagnosed in a 13 year old female Chihuahua. Histopathology of the excised tissue revealed an apocrine adnexoma with squamous metaplasia. The literature regarding prolapse and tumors of the third eyelid gland was reviewed. No case with similar morphology to this tumor was described to our knowledge.
